At first, I was a little intimidated to take the class, but Nikol is an excellent instructor. She is fun and enthusiastic about teaching the process. She encourages you to try different techniques and to not be attached to anything on the canvas. And if you don’t like what you painted, she happily suggests coming back next day with fresh eyes and to try something different. The first painting took me forever to complete, and it changed many many times. The next two project were a little easier or I was less attached to outcome. It is also intimidating to paint large if you have not painted large before like me. Nikol always reminds you to have fun and enjoy the process (it is just paint). She is great!!!

Hi, I'm Nikol.
I've been painting and teaching for over fifteen years, and I paint intuitively myself. No reference, no plan, just colour and layers and the freedom to follow each painting wherever it wants to go. Growing up on Vancouver Island, surrounded by mountains, sea, and sky, probably has something to do with why landscapes are still my favourite thing to paint.

Some painting experience is helpful since the canvases are large and the approach is open-ended, but every step is taught clearly along the way.

Not at all! While some painting experience might help, the course is designed with all skill levels in mind. I’ll guide you through each step with easy-to-follow instructions and demonstrations.

The class uses fluid acrylics, large brushes, a roller, a trowel, charcoal or graphite, and a few specialty tools like a catalyst wedge and rubber squeegee. A full PDF supply list is included with your purchase, so you'll know exactly what to gather. Most supplies are easy to find at any art store.

Yes. The techniques translate to any colour palette and canvas size. Work with what you have and adapt as you go.
